I bought Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student but the only part of it that I’ve really used is the Excel part. The software appears to be well written. When you add all the capabilities in it, I think it’s a very good deal for around $100.00. It’s got hundreds of built in mathematical, scientific, statistical, and financial functions. It allows you to build and work with tables of data in a manner similar to working with databases. You can do graphs. That’s a pretty sophisticated capability that allows you to show them in various formats. You can do scenarios and what if types of studies. The ability to generate and modify Pivot Table Reports on the fly is an amazing capability all by itself. I’m impressed and I haven’t even started to work with Word and Powerpoint yet. There’s even more. You can create and read XML files, import and export data from and to other databases, Publish Worksheets on the web so others can view them, print, share your workbook with other users, etc., etc., etc. What I’ve worked with appears to work well. No software is perfect and this software isn’t either, but it’s very, very good. I always test it to see if it’s doing what I want it to do. It has passed the test just about every time. Where it hasn’t, I only needed to tweak it a little to get what I wanted out of it. That’s a good software.

I was surprised at how beautiful this scale was when I opened the package. I wasn’t expecting something that would look like a piece of art but it really does have a sculptural quality. Yet it’s not just attractive, it is an excellent scale. Standing on it immediately lights up large numbers that are easy to read and are accurate to a tenth of a pound. I use it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It’s a great help with my new fitness program of healthy eating and exercise. The combination of this scale and a good tape measure helps me stay focused on my long term goals. Great product at a reasonable price!!!

So there are thousands upon thousands of reviews of the Kindle 2 available on Amazon and elsewhere throughout the web, some great, some so-so, some poor. Some of them compare the Kindle 2 to its predecessor Kindle 1 and the things that changed such as the removal of the SD slot and user removable battery, while some compare it to the likes of the new iPad from Apple which seems to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. In this review, you will find only a comprehensive review of the Kindle 2, nothing more, nothing less.

Let’s start off with the arrival of the product. Amazon packages it in a wonderfully small and eco-friendly box which I would recommend keeping just in case one would need to return the Kindle for repairs or other reasons. It also arrived two days after it was ordered, which to me is as fast as you can expect from any company that primarily conducts business on the internet. It was so easy to get started with the device that my five year old niece picked it up and was the first one to turn it on.

The functionality of the device is self-explanatory without having to read any manuals. The device starts out on a home screen that gives the user access to the Kindle User’s Guide, which gives a good starting point on both the basic and advanced features the Kindle 2 offers. After 30 minutes or so of reading this guide, one can go from a Kindle novice to an informed user capable of finding a use for all of the features of the device, including some useful shortcuts. It is well written and very comprehensive.

The battery charged to full in a little under an hour, and since purchasing the device a month ago, I have found the need to charge it only once. This is with the device’s Whispernet (3G service provided by Amazon at no additional charge) service turned off unless I am specifically searching the Kindle Store for an item.
