I finally read this book after being prodding by friends and relatives. I had a feeling I wouldn’t like it, but I decided I would at least give it a fair shake by actually reading it.

I wish I hadn’t.

This book is just awful. This book is easily the worst book I’ve ever read. Aside from the obvious problems with this book that have been repeatedly stated here and elsewhere on the internet, there are 4 of my own I’d like to add.

1-This book says so much with saying so little. Meyer spends effort detailing minutia that no one could possibly care about. The first chapter of the book could have been reduced to a few pages. I don’t care how she unpacked or how she walked up the stairs. Verbiage, the verbiage is just cumbersome. Every other paragraph expresses some odd facial contortion or heart murmur. Where is the depth? Who is Bella Swan? Where/what is her inner dialog? What makes her tick? What are her strengths? I get it, she’s clumsy. (How many times does this have to be driven home?) I get it, she doesn’t like herself much. What else? How did she become so self loathing? How did she get to a point of falling in love with someone so easily, someone who treats her poorly? What about Edward? Who is he? What are his flaws? What are his weaknesses? I get it, he’s perfect at everything, he’s perfect looking, he’s perfect in every way, other than being a jerk to Bella. Why is he a jerk to her? Does the author think that disrespect and sexism is normal for a relationship?

2-Normally when I’m reading a book, even a book I don’t like much, I find myself sinking in. I become so absorbed by the story that I’m not even aware that I’m reading anymore. I sink in. I didn’t sink in at any point with Twilight. I never felt absorbed by this story. Each and every word I read I was aware that I was reading. It was tedious and boring, almost painful at times. This is the easiest pedometer I have ever used. The readout is large enough to see without my glasses and I love the way it zeros itself out overnight. It’s easy to clip on or carry in your pocket. It’s very accurate and fun to use!
