I wanted to give a positive review for this book amongst the recent negative ones.

When you read “Twilight” keep in mind it is a simple, light, young-adult read. It is not educational, it is not great literature that will be read in classrooms; It is just a nice, feel good story that sucks you in and distracts you for a while akin to plopping down on the couch and turning on cable TV after a long day.

With that said, I personally enjoyed the novel. I felt the plot was creative and the story sucked me in enough where I always wanted to see what came next. The relationship between Bella and Edward was touching and believable, and I felt emotionally invested in the story as the characters fell in love. The book made me feel high and happy for days after reading it.

I was a bit disappointed, as others have said, in the shallowness of the characters. In particular, I felt like a 100-year old vampire should have a lot more depth to him. I was hoping for more insight into Edward’s philosophy–how a character like Edward sees himself, the world and his relationships. But then again, the story was told from the point of view of a teenager and as a simple read, I imagined the author probably did not want to go into philosophy in the same way that Anne Rice did with her thought-provoking vampire novels.

I was hoping to see Bella really question herself and her relationship with Edward. And I desperately wanted to see a real suspenseful climax where Edward was overtaken by Bella in a moment of true weakness, and her life was seriously threatened by him–as a I felt the book forewarned many times but never followed through with.

All in all, I think the book served its purpose in entertainment. I did finish the series, but I found all the other books to be too lengthy, inconsistent and far-fetched for my taste. As a potential spoiler to anyone who may be clueless about what comes next.. I did not find the werewolfs to be a pleasing addition to the series. Once I read this

As most previous reviewers have said, this is a rich tale of circus life in the ’30’s. The protaganist, Jacob, is appealing with personality and real human emotion. I feel the author Ms. Gruen has well-researched everything-circus in writing this book.
I felt while reading this book I was actually seeing what transpired in my mind’s eye-
I could see the rough characters come alive and could smell the sawdust, cookin grease, animals and popcorn. I felt what the characters felt when they fell upon hard times. This book also opened my eyes regarding how a rough slice of life a small circus can be.

Bring on the circus parade!

An insightful high school English teacher introduced me to Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye.” It was a book report assignment not only to capsulize the story but also to address my personal experience reading it. At that time – as I recall – I found Catcher daring and quite revolutionary in Holden’s exploits and language. Rebellion in those days was often repressed and silent. Holden broke that mold and for the first time I met a literary character with whom I could empathize. He represented freedom to express and the guts to criticize.

Now, fifty years later – motivated by Sallinger’s death – I reread “Catcher in the Rye.” A very different experience, indeed! By today’s standards and my own personal evolution, Holden emerges as a complaining, negative and whining fellow. You want to take him by the shoulders and shake before dragging him to the nearest mirror for a hard look. Still, the book is a classic – a product of its time – and offers new perspectives in the revisit. It works on many levels and is a must read for youngsters of today who are bound to appreciate the differences, and for seniors who take pleasure in recalling the rather stilted days of their youth.

I bought this book just a week or so before Salinger died. I finished the book I was reading a few days after his passing and decided to finally read this alleged masterpiece — and masterpiece it is, indeed. I wish I would have read it when I was 17, but alas, I waited until age 31. Nevertheless, I remember what it was like to be 17, and honestly, I related to the character Holden Caulfield a lot today; even as a married father and professional “phony.” I can only imagine how utterly groundbreaking this book must have been when it was first published in 1951.

What I loved about the book: I could say “everything,” because I did, but I’ll give a few specifics. First, I loved the voice in which it was written. Holden is sarcastic, snotty, and just way too cool for almost everything — just like I was when I was 17. I loved the exaggerations and hyperbole. I identified with his descent into near-madness, being in that awkward stage between childhood and adulthood, not knowing what to do, not really understanding or not wanting to deal with the consequences of your actions, really just not being ready to grow up. As Holden wanders New York in a sleep-deprived stupor, he explores these issues within his mind; he jumps from one feeling to another, and breaks down and cries more than once. It truly is a powerful novel, and one of the three best I’ve ever read. Five stars all the way.

The book is just 214 pages and a breeze to read. If you haven’t read it, you should. I’ve been reading a lot of “classic” novels lately and this is the first one that I know for a fact I will be reading again in the future. I could see myself reading this every couple of years for the rest of my life — it was that good.

Outstanding! Finally, our product research as to which carpet cleaner to purchase paid off. We almost purchased a cleaner prior to investigating product reviews; in fact, the particular cleaner we almost purchased had unfavorable reviews. The Hoover F5914-900 received the highest consumer ratings. Finally, we discovered a product particularly easy to assemble and use without difficulty. Moreover, in our new Hover upright carpet cleaner, there are no hoses needed to connect from the machine to your sink faucet; in direct contrast, in our former Bissell cleaner. Surprisingly, the Hoover cleaner was able to remove several set in stains – which we had attempted to remove several times prior, without success. Important tips: we fill our container with 5 oz of the Hoover Pet and Stain Remover solution and 5 oz of the Hoover High Traffic solution, next pour 1/3 with cool water, then fill the remainder with almost boiling water. Also, when using the cleaner, move slowly and overlap by one inch – cleaning in sections. Once you have sprayed solution onto the carpet, it is imperative to repeatedly extract the solution until you can no longer see any liquid being drawn into the cleaner. Given these facts, we will strongly recommend to our family, friends and neighbors to purchase this superior product.

I hve loved my Kindle2 since the day I received it (it’s first street date, February 2009). However, Amazon is a BIG disappointment. They re losing authors and I can no longer count on being able to get the books I want on my Kindle. In the past month I have had to purchase 4 bound books since Amazon no longer has the authors available. Oddly enough if you shoot over to Barnes & Noble they have the books in ebook format available for the Nook. So format is not the problem, Amazon is! I have sent Amazon 3 emails enquiring about this issue and have not heard back from them. At this point I’m pushing B&N to offer me a trade in for my Kindle so that I can justify buying a NOOK. Shame on you Amazon, you should treat your loyal customers better.

Even though I read this book nearly a year ago, it’s one I just can’t forget. Like so many readers before me, I just didn’t want this book to end. I was worried I would forget the characters once I began a new novel, but not so. I miss the characters as if they had become my friends, but everyone’s stories are permanently engrained (even in my tired head!). Sometimes sad, but always with humor, I found myself laughing out loud & nearly crying at times from start to finish. If you’re hear wondering if you should buy it, don’t hesitate. It’s one that should be loaned & returned to your book shelf time & time again. It truly is a modern day classic.

A wonderful novel that deftly takes the reader from a spirited old man’s hospital room to Circus trains and back again. Based in part on a menage of historic events, Water For Elephants is full of adventure and fantasy. I really enjoyed it.
