I enjoyed this first book in a Harry Potter-sortof way. It’s good, fun escapism. What I like is how the tempo of the book changes from criminal drama to comedy to fantasy to spy novel, etc, etc… Initially, you aren’t really sure what is going on, but eventually the young anti-hero idea catches on and becomes a very entertaining narrative. Nathaniel Parker provides a fantastic narration, reminiscent of Jim Dale’s excellent characterization for the Potter audio books.
Having finished the first couple books, I’m led to think of the first two books almost as a continuous story, with many of the same characters recurring.
Worth checking out.
Zefal Spring Bicycle Bottle

I have tried at least a dozen bike seats over the past ten years. This is the best. I LOVE it. Usually when I ride bikes I start squirming after a few minutes. After the bike ride I am in pain. I’ve tried several different styles, shapes, materials and had almost given up hope that there was a bike seat for me.

I am a middle-aged woman with a Downtube folding bike. I ride for recreation, I only ride in the summer (we have snow on the ground all winter) and do NOT want to be in pain while riding In fact, last summer I only went for a couple of bike rides because of my low tolerance for BEHIND PAIN. This seat is cushy, wide (to fit female “butt bones”) and also has springs. I am in no pain while I ride. When I hit a bump, it doesn’t hurt. We do a lot of off-road/dirt road riding. Nothing punishing, just out in the woods. It is nice not to wince after bumps.

I had almost given up hope. I am 100% satisfied with this purchase, and with the company that sold it via Amazon marketplace (Niagra Cycle).

Water For Elephants is one of the best books I have read this year. Initially, I did not have any interest in reading this book because it involved a circus and I am not a huge fan of circuses. But at the insistence of some friends, I picked it up and began reading. Boy am I glad I did!

Jacob Jankowski is a young man who is thrust mercilessly into the aftermath of the cruelties of life. Despite his circumstances, however, he is a good and honorable man and his compassion and honor shine through on every page of this book. He is a character that reader’s immediately fall in love with and can relate to on some level or another. The story itself grabs you instantly and takes you back to a time where traveling circuses were the biggest events in town.

Set in the 1930’s, Water For Elephants offers a glimpse into a very strange and wonderous world of circus folk during a time when many, if not most, of the country was unemployed and doing anything they could to earn a buck or at least a meal. It was fascinating to read of the lifestyle of the circus workers and how they were treated, how they related to one another, how they treated their animals and what they thought of the townspeople they traveled the country to entertain.

Water For Elephants is also a story that tells of the love and life of Jacob and Merlena and their love for the animals that they come to know while working with them in the circus. The book is beautifully and vividly written, the characters well developed and easy to love (or hate as the case may be) and the animals’ antics, especially Rosie, will make you laugh out loud.

Water For Elephants is a wonderful read and I highly recommend it!

What a wonderfully profound book. I am amazed that this is the author’s first book! I cried, laughed, and angered throughout it’s 400 pages. I caught myself laughing out loud while reading, and then just remembering passages throughout the day! It is a very sad depiction of racial relations during the civil rights movements in Mississippi. It is a story of strong women, both black and white. I will recommend it to all my friends…

Much too long – but not the author’s fault- the editors should have done their job! But as far as the story, the writing and the characters- B R I L L I A N T!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a sixth grader. I have recently read the book Artemis Fowl. It was written by Eoin Colfer. This book is about a 12 to 13 year old boy who tries to figure out the lives of Fairies and Sprites. He is a criminal mastermind. He has a buff bodyguard for a butler; Artemis calls him Butler. Butler’s sister, Julie, is a maid at Artmesis’ mansion. Artmeis lives in the mansion with his sick mother. Commander Root is the Captain of all the fairies. Holly Short is the best trained fairy of them all. Sprites are basically the same thing as fairies. Sprites and Fairies normally die at around the same age, 2500 years. Throughout this book, they mainly just introduce the main characters. Artmeis tries to catch Holly Short to find out information about important fairy files. He does catch Holly Short and finds out a lot more about fairies. Root almost fired Holly Short for telling Artmeis about the important information about the fairy files. Artmeis took Holly’s fairy dust. Little did he know, that particular dust was not just ordinary dust. This was “fairy magic” dust. The bottle that contains the magic, said that the dust could heal human beings. Artemis began thinking that this magic dust might be able to heal his sick mother…

This is the easiest pedometer I have ever used. The readout is large enough to see without my glasses and I love the way it zeros itself out overnight. It’s easy to clip on or carry in your pocket. It’s very accurate and fun to use!
